Planning a staircase in your new home.
Begin by standing on the site of your new house and taking in the surroundings. Smooth rock slabs, deep forests, waterside, gushing rapids... everything can provide inspiration to your house, and your choice of staircase.
Not so long ago staircases were squeezed into a corner so they would not take too much room. In modern homes, stairs play an integral part in the overall setting and are given a lot more space. Not only because they are beautiful, but because they are the connection point between the floors, binding the house in a natural way.
Allow the house design to be reflected in your choice of staircase. A classic Swedish house will probably demand a more traditional staircase, but that shouldn't stop you from experimenting without necessarily stepping outside the framework of a more austere design.
If you are considering an architect designed house with plenty of nooks and crannies then a bolder design and a splash of colour would not go amiss.
While there is no right or wrong, going against the grain can often be a recipe for success. Our inspirational pictures will provide you with ideas, but don't be afraid to think along entirely new lines. We, and our retailers, love a challenge and look forward to hearing from you.
